Hi, I'm Mel—
a former ad-girl and branding expert turned successful interior design business owner
turned branding and marketing educator.
I’ve come full circle.
I spent years building brands and helping businesses thrive, only to begin my own interior design business. And now, I'm here to teach other interior designers how to get their business running easily with solid branding and focused, simple marketing.
I’ve taken 20 years of branding and marketing experience, added 10 years of interior design business and over 2,000 clients — mixed in everything I’ve learned to create a straight marketing path for you.
And I have never paid for advertising.
I know what it’s like to navigate the winding road of entrepreneurship, and I’ve learned a lot valuable lessons along the way. Instead of you having to figure it all out the hard way like I did, I’m here to hand you the shortcut to success.
Let’s make your dream business a reality together!

ABOUT MELANIE ZAELICH
Interior Designer, Branding & SEO Expert
Melanie Zaelich is an award-winning interior designer, branding strategist, and SEO educator who helps interior designers, home stagers, and professional organizers build businesses that are clear, credible, and visible, without sacrificing creativity or values.
Her work sits at the intersection of design, messaging, and marketing strategy, shaped by decades of real-world experience across advertising, interior design, and online visibility.
Built on a 20-Year Advertising Career
Long before launching her own design firm, Melanie spent over 20 years in advertising, branding, and marketing, rising to the top of agency life as an award-winning designer and art director at leading Minneapolis agencies.
She studied design and advertising at a top advertising school and built her career helping brands clarify who they are, what they stand for, and how to communicate that clearly in crowded markets. Her work earned multiple creative and strategic awards and gave her deep, hands-on experience in brand positioning, messaging, visual identity, and consumer behavior.
That background is the foundation of her career expansion today. Melanie teaches branding as a core marketing strategy, helping the average creative entrepreneur build a brand that emotionally connect with their ideal client.
Founder of Happy Place Interiors
In 2016, Melanie founded Happy Place Interiors, where her business quickly gained regional and national recognition. Her work has earned Houzz Best in Service every year since 2017, she was named one of the Top 100 Influential People in Real Estate, and she received RESA National’s Top 10 Redesigner of the Year—USA three consecutive years. In 2023, Happy Place Interiors was awarded Silver for Minnesota’s Best Interior Design Firm.
More importantly, Happy Place Interiors became a living case study, proof that strong branding, clear messaging, and smart marketing can create consistency, demand, and longevity in a service-based design business. That you don't need big marketing budgets to reach the right people.
Creator of The Designer’s Blueprint
As her business grew, Melanie noticed a clear pattern: talented designers, stagers, and organizers were struggling with marketing.
That realization led to The Designer’s Blueprint, an education platform built to teach what the industry rarely does: how to design the business itself.
Through signature programs including The Branded & Booked Designer™, The SEO-Powered Website™, and The Advice-Only Designer™, Melanie helps professionals clarify their positioning, package their expertise, or build consultation-driven businesses.
Through courses, coaching, and practical frameworks, she teaches creatives how to build businesses rooted in clarity, confidence, and sustainability—without burnout, pressure, or pretending to be someone they’re not.
Creator of the SEO Success Factors™ Framework
Melanie has been studying, practicing, and implementing website SEO for over a decade—long before it became a buzzword. She learned it to build free and sustainable marketing for her own business.
Happy Place Interiors has remained on Google Page 1 year after year and Melanie has continued to have a calendar booked solid without additional marketing and never paying for ads.
Through that experience, and as Melanie was creating an SEO Course for other designers, she developed SEO Success Factors™, an industry-shifting framework that makes SEO easier to understand, marketing more aligned, and branding more professional. Her approach reframes SEO as a full marketing and branding tool, not a tech chore. The framework connects visibility, relevance, and trust—so websites rank high and convert.
Media, Leadership & Community
Melanie’s work has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens, Midwest Design, and Axios Twin Cities, and she regularly shares her insights on industry podcasts including A Well-Designed Business, Wingnut Social, and Interior DesignHer. She is a member of Women in Construction and Women in Tech SEO, and previously served as President of RESA Minneapolis.
Giving back is also central to her work. Melanie is a Board Member of Joy Collaborative, a Minnesota nonprofit creating life-enriching spaces for children with life-limiting conditions. In 2024, she launched designLOVE, the Happy Place Interiors giving program, donating her time and talent to help create spaces that foster healing, hope, and happiness.
Core Belief
At the heart of everything Melanie does is a simple belief:
thoughtful design—of homes, brands, and businesses—has the power to improve lives.
Messaging and branding make a powerful impact.
Melanie was immediately drawn to the organization, and after seeing their original website, she knew she could make a significant impact.
Melanie jumped in right away at the Marketing and creative Design lead designing and building the website from scratch. She partnered with premier Twin Cities photographers, Spacecrafting, for the stellar photography. She continues to lead a dedicated team of creative volunteers as the organization grows rapidly, helping to further its mission and make a bigger difference in the community.
Since redesigning the website, refining the messaging, and incorporating SEO, the organization has grown tremendously. Melanie gives full credit to the founder, Mark Ostrom, along with the entire Board, volunteers, and sponsors to the growth and expansion of the organization.
However, she also knew Joy Collaborative needed a professional, compelling website to have the larger financial conversations that would move the mission forward. In the nonprofit world, “looking legit” is a big deal—and she and the team understand how transformative branding can be, especially when the impact is so personal and powerful.
